Description

Random Acts of Kindness is an extension of our Respect at Riverdale: Peace and Harmony initiative held in February. From May 25 to May 28 ESP/Law Society members promoted random acts of kindness and were involved in a number of other initiatives. We made  school announcements and the thought of the day refelect our message of kind acts and deeds. We had "The Twelve  Golden Rules" posted throughout the school. All RCI stafff were asked to record student acts of kindness. Those students names were placed in a draw to win a tie-died t-shirt compliments of ESP. The winner of the draw was grade 11 student Enney Hoang. We also had a poetry writing contest. Elaine Li, a grade 12 student,  won a $40.00 gift certificate from Indigo for her poem entitled "Peace, Hope and Harmony". At lunch we had ice-cream sales and tie dyed t-shirts sales (ESP/Law Society students tie-dyed the t-shirts.. we had help from RCI's student council) with all proceeds going to War Child Canada. During our lunchtime ice-cream sale we were also joined by a RCI club: Beading for a Social Cause who joined our fundraiser and sold somosas and other treats. The total raised for War Child Canada was $723.00. On May 28th everyone at RCI wore their tie-dyed t-shirt (or a bright coloured t-shirt) to show their support for peace and harmony. Elaine Li's poem was read over the school pa system as the thought of the day. This was a successful initiative, thanks to all the hard work of all who supported the ESP/Law Society Peace and Harmony initiative.
